Why You Should Consider getting a Wedding Watch

Every woman dreams of that special moment. Your boyfriend gets down on his knees. He reveals a beautiful green box. Ever so tenderly, with hands shaking from nervousness, he undoes the latch. He opens it in a slow reveal, but as soon as you lay your eyes upon it, you’re awestruck. It shimmers in the light, its brilliance and perfection blinding you to everything else around you.

As you gaze into the Rolex Datejust, he utters the words – will you marry me? Without lifting your gaze from its mesmerizing dial, you say yes.

You say yes because you couldn’t possibly let anything get in the way of true love; not even the man proposing to you. The love between a woman and her watch.

Okay, so maybe not every woman dreams of this – and in fairness, my husband proposed to me while comparing organic and non-organic tomatoes – but modern love has definitely changed the options both men and women have of signifying their desire to spend their lives together. Nothing will dethrone the engagement ring anytime soon, but it’s become more common to receive a luxury timepiece as a piece of engagement jewelry. But the wedding watch carries an entirely different meaning from an engagement or wedding ring. Where the latter represent a lifetime of love, both present and future, the watch captures a particular moment in your past. We see this with watches all the time – stories of men looking fondly at a particular timepiece and remembering their first-born, or the watch they wore when their father passed away, or any number of stories associated with timepieces.

So when you get your loved one an engagement or wedding watch, you are commemorating and enshrining a very particular moment of your life stories. And unlike a ring, it doesn’t have to be anything special – you can spring for a Rolex, or you can grab a nice Seiko – no peers will judge him/her for wearing it, and nobody will understand its special meaning except you and your spouse. So go out there and grab a wedding watch – it’ll be one of your fondest memories!
